To pee or not to pee: the big girls’ debate.

The recent political climate has been something of a hurricane for trans individuals. The government definition of a woman – now changed to be based on biological sex – excludes not only trans women, but also intersex women.
This whole problem started partly because of the age-old bathroom debate, hence the title of this article. Trans women are being demonised for “invading” women’s spaces because of the few malicious individuals who claim such an identity to assault women. When you look at it, however, with a clear and unbiased mind, you’ll quickly realise that real, non-bogeyman trans individuals accessing these spaces only do so for their own safety and comfort. Because once a trans feminine person starts presenting as female, they now (under this legal decision) have limited access to female spaces, but are also on a personal safety level limited from using the men's because... you know how some people get when faced with someone different. So, what now? “Just use the disabled room”? That’s demoralising to someone who doesn’t have a disability and being trans shouldn’t have connotations of being a disability. Someone who’s already had a lifetime of confusion and viciousness from figures of authority is, yet again, put through the wringer of life, but this time denied the right to have a piss because they don't have the “correct” genitals.
